All submissions must relate to environmentalism, LGBT+ politics, postcolonialism, or feminism. We champion an anti-discrimination policy on our submissions, so everyone is welcome to submit work as long as it meets our topic criteria. We will not however accept any discriminative or hateful content.
Articles should be between 500 and 6000 words in length (including footnotes, excluding bibliography). Please submit in an editable format (i.e. word document), use English spelling, and include a title (subtitle where suitable), name and referencing. You must credit any photos or artwork (you must cite all sources). For more academic pieces, please include a short abstract and use MHRA referencing system (you can find referencing guidelines online).
Do not hesitate to incorporate creative writing or art (or other mediums) into your articles, we want work that defies conventional forms, genres and structures.
We accept all forms of art and encourage experimentation and interdisciplinary practices. Including, but not limited to:
- digital art
- visual art (painting, sketches etc...)
- performance art
If you have created any physical art or performance art that you would like to submit, but don't have access to a photographer or videographer, please still get it touch. We have our own talented videographers who might be able to collaborate with you on a project or document it for you.
If you are an artist and interested in collaborating with us here at SexyVeg, then send us some information about your medium, style and politics and we can set you up with other artists working for us! We want to be involved in making as much artwork, as we are publishing art online.
Reviews should be 500-2000 words, and can cover any new publications, films, theatre, dance or art exhibitions. The subject matter or the content of the review must reflect the SexyVeg ethos and relate to the relevant issues surrounding environmentalism, feminism, LGBT+ or racial discourses.
We encourage any interdisciplinary takes on conventional subject matter and form.
We accept all forms of creative writing and encourage experimentation and interdisciplinary practices. Including, but not limited to:
- short stories
- graphic novels/illustrated stories
- comic books
Creative writing can be any length up to 8000 words. If your work is a little longer then this, please do not hesitate to contact us, as we might be able to accept it.
Recipes must be vegetarian or vegan, and include easily accessible and affordable ingredients. It is important that all ingredients are as ethically sourced as possible, and we prefer recipes and food journalism that encourages this mindset.
You do not have to include any food journalism alongside your recipes, though this is preferable. Good quality photography is expected, however videos or artwork are also valid alternatives.
